The Importance Of Yoga

Friday, January 17th, 2014

So P90X, P90X2 and P90X3 all have Yoga in them. I’ll be honest, when I did P90X and P90X2 I skipped Yoga days and did some other workout? That would be why I am probably one of the most non-flexible, tightest hamstrings and hip flexors person you will ever meet. Well in P90X3 I have done the Yoga and I love it. Maybe because it’s only 30 minutes, compared to the hour to hour and a half programs in P90X and P90X2.  The workout flies by and the moves are challenging, but not that challenging and you still get a sweat on while stretching and strengthening muscles.l-Kitty-yoga...-STRREEETTTCCCHHH

Here’s why I think Yoga is important to do and no I have not found nor looked out of my third eye. If you’re not an active person, but still want to maintain flexibility and blood flow in your joints and muscles without working up a huge cardio surge, then Yoga might be for you. Yoga has been proven to help people lose weight, lower their cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduces the onset of diseases related to the heart (coronary atherosclerotic disease and coronary artery disease).  Yoga is low-impact, which is good for those suffering from arthritis, asthma, low back pain and osteoporosis. So as I stated before, strength and stretching (flexibility) are other perks you gain from Yoga, but so are an increase in balance control and a reduction in knee problems (no impact jarring).

yoga-dogLastly, because Yoga is a mind-body exercise, there have been studies showing a decrease in stress hormones, a decrease in anxiety and depression, people sleep better and there are decreases in symptoms relating to pain, asthma, angina and chronic fatigue.

So, clear your mind, roll out the mat and put on some lose fitted clothing because it’s time to center yourself. Peace.

How much water is enough when you are doing high endurance exercise?

Friday, December 27th, 2013

Here you go!!!  This one is so short, sweet and to the point, but should be addressed when you are doing high endurance exercise.  To me high endurance exercise is anything that is elevating your respiratory and muscle endurance for a long duration of time at a consistent level. Even if you are working out for just 30 minutes, if that 30 minutes is all out high intensity exercise with plyometrics, pull-ups, push-ups, dynamic moves like lunges and squats, moving push-ups, weight transfer utilizing core balance and stability….if you are go, go, go then I think water will play an exceptionally important role in your overall performance and how you feel during and after your workout.20131125_175002-1

You should drink at least six to eight 12-ounce glass of water (non-carbonated) everyday, but when it comes to fitness and drinking water to help your body function properly, I recommend the following:

  • 12-ounces of water 2 hours before you exercise
  • 8-12 ounces of water 15-20 minutes before you exercise
  • 4-8 ounces of water every 15 minutes during exercise

Of course limiting the amount you drink DURING exercise is important because you don’t want to be too hydrated and throw-up. Water regulates your body temperature, lubricates your joints, and move essential nutrients throughout your body. It is important to replenish your body with fluids when exercising because when you don’t, it becomes harder for your heart to circulate blood which can lead to muscle cramps, dizziness, fatigue, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion.

These are just my suggestions because everyBODY is different but every EVERYBODY needs water. DRINK UP!!!!

p90x3

It’s here! Are you ready?  P90X3.  You did P90X, you did P90X2 and now you are ready for P90X3.  I know.  Pretty excited aren’t you?  Me too.  The beauty here is that you don’t have to even have done P90X or P90X2 to get engaged with the new hot toy on the block.  You can start with this bad boy from the start.  So…are you ready??

THE MUSCLE ACCELERATION SYSTEM

• Studies shows that the most dramatic body transformations happen in the first 30 minutes of exercise.
• Tony Horton took everything he’s proven with Muscle Confusion and Muscle Integration, and tailored new routines to take advantage of this science of shorter workouts.
• The MUSCLE ACCELERATION SYSTEM combines a highly-structured schedule with an incredibly high level of intensity and an unprecedented variety of moves that keeps every muscle challenged for the full 30 minutes.
• A 90-day extreme fitness program designed to get you ripped in just 30 minutes a day. Each one of the accelerated 30-minute workouts has been uniquely developed to produce the greatest physical change in your body, in the most efficient way.
• 90 Day Program – Three 30-Day Blocks
• 16 30-Minute P90X-style workouts
• 6 Days a Week
• All you need is weights/bands, a way to do chin-ups, and 30 minutes/day.
• a fitness guide
• 90 day workout calendar to guide you through the 90 days.
• IMPORTANT NOTE – P90X3 is NOT a sequel to P90X or P90X2, nor is it a graduate program.
• Users do not have to be in great shape or need to complete P90X or P90X2 in order to do P90X3.

X3 Schedule Choices

• CLASSIC – Traditional balance of cardio and resistance, will help you gain muscle and lose fat
• LEAN – Designed for those who prefer a more toned look, where you’ll target functionality, mobility and cardio over resistance training
• MASS – For those looking for bulk over getting ripped, you will focus on more resistance training, while incorporating a higher caloric intake into your diet
• DOUBLES – As Tony would say, this schedule is for workout “psychos” who have the ability to push through two workouts per day

P90X2…is it worth it?

Monday, October 7th, 2013

So the question is, Is P90X2 worth it? Worth your time? Worth your money? My answer to these questions is YES!!! YES!!! and YES!!!  P90X2 takes it to the next level by use of stability balls, medicine balls and for those who are not proficient at doing pull-ups on your own, they have created a wonderful device called the pull-up assist. A lot more sturdier that using a chair and the better you get at doing pull-ups, the lower you make the pull-up assist so it is more YOU doing the exercises that the assist.

p90x2

This program starts at focusing on your core. Which is the most important part of development with this program because as the program progresses into stability, mobility, balance and strength moves…the more secure, strong and stable your core is then the greater your success will be. Moves throughout this program include medicine ball burpees, stability ball push-ups, 4 position pull-ups, Drea (Webber) rolls, 4 ball push ups, yoga, Recovery and Mobility with a foam roller, and many more moves that are much more fun to experience for yourself than to read about.

One of the great things about all of these videos are the warm-ups. They are not your everyday, run of the mill warm-ups. Tony integrates the use of the stability ball (or a towel) to warm up with while doing squats, lunges and other moves to elongate and warm-up the body. Also the use of the foam roller really gets into parts of the body to help  loosen lactic acid or muscle tightness, prepping your tendons for a glorious workout. Sometimes just warming up in and of itself gets the sweat going and the heart pumping (wonderful, awesome goodness).

This program is challenging because some of the moves take TIME, PATIENCE and PRACTICE to master, but as the motto goes in any of the P90X programs “The More You Do, The Better You Get!”  There is always somebody modifying in whatever program you are doing and there is an option to just listen to the “Cues and Music” without having to listen to any of the participants in the programs.

P90X and P90X2 Challenge Packs on Sale!

Monday, March 11th, 2013

header-both

P90X2 and P90X2 Sale, what sale?

P90X and P90X2 Challenge Packs are on sale for the month of October  and this sale is amazing!  They are only $180.  The Challenge Packs are available for any new or existing customer or coaches so take advantage of this while it lasts.  It is great!   The savings is really off the hook.  If you were to purchase either P90X or P90X2 and Shakeology separately it would cost you $240 plus shipping and handling.   The $180 Challenge Pack price this month is really out of this world.  I wish I didn’t have these programs already otherwise I’d hop on this.

post-p90x

What the heck is a Challenge Pack anyway?

A challenge pack is the coolest new thing from Beachbody.  It packages together everything you will possibly need to get fit and healthy.  You get any one of Beachbody’s fitness programs, you pick, at a discounted rate, a month supply of the very popular Shakeology, a 30 day member to Team Beachbody Club and to top it off you get all of this with FREE shipping!

The beauty of all of this is that if you bought all of this separately you would pay much more including having to pay shipping so the bundled cost is a way better deal.

Of course this month as I mentioned, you get an even better deal because P90X and P90X2 Challenge Packs are on sale so it can’t get much better unless of course they were free!

Shakeology What?

shakeology

So you have heard of Shakeology, seen the ads, heard the testimonials but still want more info?  Sure!  Shakeology is a meal replacement shake that not only tastes amazing but is truly the most nutritious thing you will find on the market today.  If you can find something more nutritious let me know and I will send you a free bag of Shakeology, I bet you can’t. Shakeology contains over 70 ultra high-quality ingredients conveniently located in one glass, to deliver nearly all the nutrients you need to maintain a healthy diet.  More info here.

Free Fitness Coaching and amazing support!

Added bonus here!  We offer free fitness coaching and have some seriously great support that we offer after you have bought your challenge pack.  We have a wonderful Facebook group full of people doing the programs that you will be doing.  We have done P90X and P90X2 so we can help you along the way with answers to your questions about nutrition, the workouts, if you need a kick in the butt to start or keep going or just want some friendly advice and some friends.  Both of us will help you out and we will introduce you to what we call our family on Facebook.  We have a close knit community and you will grow to be a part of our family, our team.  We’d love you to join us.  Click here for more info.

Personal Development and Judging

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

I decided to put forth the effort and invest in my personal development, which I am sure will not only benefit my personal life, but my professional life as well. Of course, the only way to make this happen, is to not only take in the knowledge, but apply it as well. Duh!! I have placed my attention towards a genre of development outlets such as: an audio book from John C. Maxwell on The 5 Levels of Leadership, a book by Dani Johnson regarding First Steps to Wealth and a book by Don Miguel Ruiz addressing The Voice of Knowledge.

Learning to look within myself, recognize my weaknesses, work off of my strengths, admit that nobody is perfect, and understand that we all have things happen in our lives that create who we are and how we choose to handle those happenings, not only has an impact on us but those around us. We all have something positive to contribute, but it sometimes appears that being negative is the easier route to take, yet we never notice the impact it inadvertently has on ourselves and directly on others.

I looked on Facebook the other day and saw an advertisement for P90X and next to the advertisement was a photo of one of the Top 5 Elite Coaches-meaning that this person has invested a lot, I mean a lot of time on their personal development and working with people. I had seen this coach on occasion at events Jo-Anne and I had been to for Beachbody, but this coach and I had never spoken. The coaches team members would speak about and support their coach with the highest of praise and appreciation. When I saw the P90X post, with the advertisement photo, I began reading the responses to the post. I became instantly offended by a majority of the posts and protective of this coach with whom I have never personally met. The persons posting the negative and extremely JUDGMENTAL comments had never met this coach either. How could I tell??? Well, not once did any of the naysayers mention this coaches name and those who did mention it, defended this coach because they either spoke to, knew or had seen the positive things this coach had done for their team or for others (like I did). All the JUDGES did during their posts was attack this coaches physical appearance (one of the coaches assets) without blinking an eye. Then when other negative people jumped on the band wagon, that seemed to give more ammunition to the original naysayers to criticize even more. Never once did they seem to blink an eye that they were judging someone they didn’t even know and knew nothing about. We have all judged but WHEN DOES JUDGMENT DAY STOP????

This got me to thinking. What made all of these 30+ people verbally attack this person they did not know. Where they intimidated, jealous, insecure over things this coach possessed that they didn’t?

Without knowing someone, how many times do we sit in judgment and exhibit negative thoughts or comments to others and about others that we may or may not know? I thought to myself, who am I to judge anyone? I am not perfect. I have my flaws and insecurities……I was raised without money, fought my demons with food, was in a physically bad relationship, am currently in a relationship supported by some and bashed upon by most, those who are too busy making judgments to take the time to see the whole picture.

How am I to succeed both professionally and personally if I have a preconceived belief of others and not a true hold and identity of myself. Don Miguel Ruiz said, “As little children, we are completely authentic. We never pretend to be what we are not. Our tendency is to play and explore, to live in the moment, to enjoy life. No body teaches us to be that way; we are born that way.”

I have learned to believe that even as adults we are authentic and to judge others only places us at a disadvantage from being able to learn from those who too are authentic. If I lived in a world of everyone like me, I would go crazy. Some people were either born with or given advantage over others, but everyone has their faults, either closeted or with the front door wide open. Some people say that there is only one individual that has the right to judge and I can’t disagree with that.

What makes one person better than another??? If anyone can answer that for me, then let the world be one huge courtroom, but until someone can answer that for me, I will continue to focus on things that I am learning within and about myself. Dani Johnson: “In order to get where you want to go, something has to change.” “If you focus on loosing, then you will loose” and the #1 mistake people make is lack of focus. Focus on the negative gets you 0. Focus negatively on people and I believe you will get distrust and disliked = being unsuccessful and unhappy.

Focusing on ways to make yourself better and going through personal development maybe gives less time for judgment and more time for your successes.

What’s New with the P90X2 Nutrition Guide?

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Denis Faye, the Wellness Expert and Fitness Advisor for Beachbody, wrote a wonderful article recently about what is new in the P90X2 Nutrition Guide.  As we prepare for the upcoming arrival of  P90X2 we should also prepare our stomachs for the new improvements in the nutrition guide.  The changes are good and we should all be very happy that Beachbody has made these wonderful improvements.  Read Denis’ article below and get prepared for this new workout and nutrition plan that will be here in the next couple months!

By Denis Faye

Everyone wants to know how we went about breaking down the P90X® Nutrition Guide and rebuilding it into the P90X2 Nutrition Guide. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

In a way, that’s true. Just as Steve Austin was a great astronaut before Oscar Goldman and the OSO spent $6 million to turn him into the Bionic Man, the P90X guide is still a great resource. However, you, our customers, have changed. We’ve spent the last 9 years watching you evolve into better, stronger, faster fitness fanatics. Our job was the make sure the guide evolved with you. Our job was to make a bionic nutrition plan.

When P90X first came out, Beachbody® had a fairly uniform customer base. Today, however, our customers come from all walks of life, so we need to address a much broader spectrum of needs. For example, a 105-pound mother of five just isn’t going to have the same nutritional requirements as a professional basketballer. (Everyone knows the mom’s life would be much more physically challenging.

Furthermore, our original customers, after one or more rounds of P90X, with possibly a little INSANITY®thrown in for good measure, have become incredibly aware of their nutritional needs. They’ve learned exactly how much protein, carbs, and fat they need to perform. They’ve also started experimenting with various nutritional philosophies. Although I’m neither a vegan nor a primal eater, the sheer volume of questions about each on the Team Beachbody® Message Boards has forced me to become an expert on both.

So we took these factors, combined them with the latest research, and voilà! Welcome to the P90X2 Fuel Your Performance Nutrition Guide, a collection of 27 different subplans, among which you’ll hopefully find a way of eating that works for you.

Out with the old

In order to offer all this variety, we decided to do away with the menu plan. The vast majority of P90X users preferred the portion plan anyway, so we focused on that. However, everyone loves a good recipe, so we reached out to some of our favorite chefs, including Tony’s personal chef Melissa Costello, and asked them to design a host of meals for every occasion. In this new guide, you’ll find scores of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, soups, salads, and Shakeology® recipes. Because we also have grain-free and vegan plans in P90X2, we made sure to have plenty of recipes to suit both of these dietary approaches as well. As was the case with P90X, each recipe lists the portion boxes to check when you eat it.

And don’t worry, all your favorite recipes from the P90X Nutrition Guide will still work with P90X2.

We also tossed out a lot of the junkier food options featured in the P90X portion lists. At that point, many of you were still transitioning to healthy eating. At this stage, you should have no need for veggie dogs, V8®, or that fast food portion conversion list in the back of the old guide.

In with the new

For every low-quality choice we eliminated from the portion lists, we added two healthy and delicious choices. You’ll find new fats, snacks, proteins, and more.

The three calorie “levels”—1,800, 2,400, and 3,000—are still there, as are the different macronutrient balances. However, given that the latest research is making the importance of dietary fat increasingly obvious, we upped the fat in all three “phases.” We’ve also redubbed them “plans,” because while we encouraged you to work your way up the three phases with P90X, by now you should have a pretty good idea what works best for you when it comes to performance, shedding fat, or both. In P90X2, you can just pick the one that works for you and run with it, changing plans whenever you feel like it.

That said, if you’re still not sure if you should be eating the “Fat Shredder 2.0” approach, the “Energy Booster 2.0” approach, or the “Endurance Maximizer 2.0” approach, we’ve included a section to help you figure that out.

As mentioned above, we’ve also added vegan and grain-free options that work for all three calorie “levels” and all three macronutrient “plans.” If you’re familiar with these lifestyles, you can jump right in. Otherwise, the book includes plenty of information on how to implement them. Also, we acknowledge that some of you cowboys (and cowgirls) don’t like to be restrained by portion lists. You just want to know how many calories or grams of carbs, protein, and fat to eat so that you can use your own foods and measurements. For y’all, we’ve provided charts listing all the numbers you need if you decide to forego the portion plan and just hit the macronutrient numbers on your own. Yee-hah!

Finally, we’ve let our top-notch design team rework the guide. They’ve taken a potentially dizzying amount of information and placed it in charts and graphs that should make it easy to digest. A nutrition plan never looked so beautiful.

In the 9 years since we launched P90X, we’ve watched umpteen diet fads come and go, each one claiming to be the final word in sports nutrition. It’s absurd, really, considering there’s no one single plan that works for everyone. The P90X2 Fuel Your Performance Nutrition Guide doesn’t claim to do that. Instead, it’s a wide-ranging guide intended to offer you all the tools needed to work with the only nutrition expert in the world who can truly tell you the right way to eat. That nutrition expert? You.

Ah the day is almost over…time to lie back and relax

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Well, after a very mentally stressful day at work, which actually if you think about it, wears you out more than physically doing anything…I came home and was ready to get my Insanity on. I had to work out the days “oh my gosh I almost wanted to just squeeze my eyes closed really tight, click my heels three times and wish I was in Neverland” activity by sweating it all out. Just 20 minutes of the Insanity: Fast and Furious then I finished just in time to do P90X Cardio X with Jo-Anne. We were busy Downward dogging, upward dogging, Kempo punching, front-side-back kicking, jab-cross-hook-upper cut punching, etc…it was a good way to finish the day and even better way to finish the night by the wonderful chicken boob and Cajun sweet potatoes fries. All courtesy of Jo.

Now that I am comfortably full, not “roll off the dining room chair then onto the couch ah forget it, go to bed full”, but content enough to get ready for tomorrow and look forward to the very long weekend. Woo hoo. I learned that to get through days of stress, if I physically take care of myself and laugh it off to care for my mental well being, then I will be okay. Just remember, “You can’t fix crazy. You can just tip toe around it because the meds aren’t working.”

I have found that if you exhibit a good attitude towards people, situations and not let things bother you…that those around you who are being pissy, will just stop yapping because no one is paying attention to their drama  and they will have no one to talk to but themselves, because that is the only person listening to them anyway.

This blog was not so much about physical awareness per se, but mental well being because without it, you will give up on yourself to do better and will just be and feel blah…

Good night.

A Little Video From Me

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011
So I thought I’d make a little video for everyone to watch.  We will try keep the videos coming and change the up the topics every so often to make them more exciting.  This one is just an intro to me and my background.  Hope you enjoy.

Welcome

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

How exciting!!! This is our very first post and we can’t wait to see what changes our bodies have gone through since we started the Insanity program approximately 2 months ago. The daily dedications to working out and not only hoping to look better, but feel better are paying off.

Our last official day of Insanity is Sunday the 22nd of May (Fit Test results) and then it is on to Insanity AND P90X (hybrid) for a more invigorating variation of working out. Looking forward to the challenge of pushing beyond what limits we think our bodies can endure and loving every minute of it…..kind of, we are not that insane.

Again, I must stress how great I feel now, of course, compared to when I was 220 lbs. I would never want to go back to having little to no energy, dreading having to try on clothes (in the Plus size section) and just the plain old feeling of having no confidence about myself.

I have been lucky to find someone who has enough energy for a small army and who motivates me when I am tired. Luckily, with Insanity and P90X, I need no motivation as the programs give variations of activity and don’t lead to boredom.
